Hubris curtailed in Washington

Whatever the wisdom of invading Iraq, many of us believed that the US President was not wise to snub so many allies and friends in the runup to war. No state, not even a superpower, is omnipotent, which the Bush administration is finally learning. Here is an editorial in the St. Petersburg Times (the one in Florida, not the one in Russia) which makes a good deal of sense: "Hat in Hand." Let's hope Bush reads it.

There is something in it that America's snubbed allies should read as well. They need to swallow their pride and move quickly to offer help to the people of Iraq, who desperately need it.
