Categorical imperiousness

The following conversation may or may not have been overheard in an ethics class in East Prussia near the end of the 18th century:

Exasperated professor: "You have a duty to be morally autonomous."
Inquisitive student: "Why?"
"Because it’s a mark of mature adulthood."
"Why?"
"Because it just is."
"Why?"
"Because I say so."
