My new book, Citizenship Without Illusions, is now officially published as of the 26th day of last month. It is now available from the publisher, IVP Academic, and from bookstores everywhere and the online vendors. In many respects, this is a much shorter sequel to my first book, Political Visions and Illusions.
As we are in the last month of the year, when many of us make donations to various causes and charities, please consider making a financial contribution to my work. Your contributions help to support the following:
- I draw a small monthly salary from these funds to supplement my private and public pension income, and together they cover a portion of the time and energy put into the various responsibilities I have taken on.
- The funds cover equipment, supplies, books, and other incidental expenses. The computer on which I work and the connected printer are two of the major pieces of equipment provided by your generous contributions.
- With the end of pandemic restrictions, I have resumed some work-related travel, most recently to western Michigan and western Pennsylvania this past spring. Your contributions will help to support this travel, especially where resources in the host country are insufficient to cover the costs.
GSC's page for giving can be found here. Once you are in the page, scroll down to the heading marked DONATION DETAILS, and then choose one of the options under FUND. Americans may donate through our sister organization in the US.
Or, if you prefer, Canadian donors can donate publicly traded securities (shares or mutual funds) directly to charities without having to pay the capital gains tax. This is a cost-effective and painless way to make a donation that comes with a substantial tax incentive. By donating securities, donors pay no tax on capital gains, receive a tax receipt for the fair market value of the securities, as well as reduce their taxes. Watch this video for more information about this option: Link Charity Canada: Donation of Securities. If interested, please visit the Link Charity Canada Inc. website, and call for details at 1-800-387-8146. Link Charity Canada is a partner organization of Global Scholars Canada, so Link Charity can easily direct funds for my work.
Those who contribute an additional $100 to my work before year's end will receive a copy of Citizenship Without Illusions from the publisher.
I have had quite a few events taking place over the past month, most of which are related to my new book. I will give you a brief rundown here.
Several weeks ago I had a memorable conversation with Pastor Josh Burtram and Will Wright on their Faithful Politics podcast, which can be accessed here.
On 22 November, I spoke once again to the latest CARE cohort of young people in the United Kingdom. CARE stands for Christian Action, Research, and Education. Participants work as interns for members of parliament and, in the course of their programme, read my Political Visions and Illusions. It is always a joy to connect with Christian young people with a heart for living out God's kingdom in the political realm.
On 26 November, the very day my new book was published, Bob Robinson, along with his current junior partner David Loughney, interviewed me for his Reintegrate podcast. Robinson has interviewed me several times in the past and is a supporter of my work with Global Scholars. I will alert readers when the interview is posted.
On 28 November, my Common Good interview appeared online: Good citizenship doesn't stop after the election.
The following day, my RAPT interview appeared online. This was a highly unusual interview that required me to bare my soul in a more personal way. I was happy to respond to their questions, but it also brought to the surface some of my own past struggles and joys.
Then on the 4th of this month, Paul Edwards interviewed me over Detroit's Christian radio station, WMUZ. This wasn't the first time I had been interviewed on that station, but it was the first with Edwards.
I recently received good news with respect to my ongoing work with the Genevan Psalter. At my request, the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship has given me a second grant to continue the editorial process on my collection. This covers more of the formatting work done by Michael Owens, who last year produced a complete pdf copy of the manuscript. The general title for the collection is "The Genevan Psalter for Everyone." My overall goal is to produce a psalter in which the stresses in texts and tunes more readily match than in every version of the Psalter of which I am aware, including the original French. In a related development, I have thus far uploaded 59 guitar performances of the Genevan tunes on my YouTube channel, which can be found here: The Genevan Psalter. My work with the Psalter goes back to the mid 1980s.
I would like to wish everyone a blessed Advent and a very happy Christmas. Thank you once again for your support for my work.
Yours in the service of God's kingdom,
David Koyzis, Global Scholar
