JANUARY 2025 NEWSLETTER

As we enter the new year, it is hard to believe that we are at the end of the first quarter of what is no longer a new century. I would like to wish all of you God's blessings during 2025 as you seek to serve him within the paths where he has placed you. To those of you for whom 2024 brought sorrow and adversity, may the new year see an improvement in your circumstances.

It is not quite two months since the publication of Citizenship Without Illusions, and already four reviews have been published. I am happy to report that they are overwhelmingly positive in their assessment. The first was published last July by Trey Dimsdale, the executive director of the Center for Religion, Culture, & Democracy (CRCD), the educational and cultural initiative of First Liberty Institute: Taking the Long View of Politics in “Citizenship Without Illusions”

A second review was written by Ben Makuh, whose praise was enhanced by what I thought to be a somewhat humorous observation: "I'm not going to bury the lede: this is a phenomenal little book about Christian political engagement. . . .Koyzis writes from a Reformed perspective, but without the grating tone of self-assured cockiness that can often take."

The third review appeared at Faithful Intellect, including a fairly complete outline of the book and several takeaways.

Finally, Joel Wentz, who reviewed my first book several years ago, returns to assess my new book in a video review, which can be accessed here.

In November, on the very day that the book was released, Bob Robinson and David Loughney interviewed me for their Reintegrate podcast. The interview has now been posted and can be heard here: Dual citizens: In the kingdom of God AND in our nation, with David Koyzis. Robinson is a faithful supporter of my work and has interviewed me several times over the years.

For those of you who contributed an additional $100 between 15 November and year's end, I am now arranging with IVP to have copies of my book sent to you. Canadian donors will receive theirs first, while American and other donors will receive theirs somewhat later. Thank you for your patience and for your support.

This year Global Scholars Canada observes its 30th anniversary. To celebrate, GSC is organizing a public book launch for my book and three others on Thursday 6 January at 7 pm to which you are all invited. It will be simultaneously an in-person and online event and will take place at Faith Baptist Church, 1415 Trafalgar Rd, Oakville ON L6H 4R7. I would love to see as many of you as possible attending in some fashion. I will send out a more detailed invitation shortly. In the meantime, here is more information about the event.

Thanks so much for your ongoing support for my work. If you have contributed financially on a one-time basis in the past, please consider a regular monthly contribution, as it makes it easier for Global Scholars to set an annual budget, including the modest salary I receive from the organization. GSC's page for giving can be found here. Once you are in the page, scroll down to the heading marked DONATION DETAILS, and then choose one of the options under FUND. Americans may donate through our sister organization in the US.

Or, if you prefer, Canadian donors can donate publicly traded securities (shares or mutual funds) directly to charities without having to pay the capital gains tax. This is a cost-effective and painless way to make a donation that comes with a substantial tax incentive. By donating securities, donors pay no tax on capital gains, receive a tax receipt for the fair market value of the securities, as well as reduce their taxes. Watch this video for more information about this option: Link Charity Canada: Donation of Securities. If interested, please visit the Link Charity Canada Inc. website, and call for details at 1-800-387-8146. Link Charity Canada is a partner organization of Global Scholars Canada, so Link Charity can easily direct funds for my work. Thank you!

Yours in God's service,

David Koyzis, Global Scholar
