FEBRUARY 2024 NEWSLETTER

InterVarsity Press now has my manuscript for Citizenship Without Illusions, so I have a bit of a break until I receive it back from the copy editors, probably near the start of next month. In the meantime, I have received the cover art which I will show everyone once I have permission to do so. I was given a choice between two quite different designs, and I opted for the one that I thought better represented the message of the book.

Last year I became acquainted with Caleb Campbell, whose book, Disarming Leviathan, is forthcoming, also from InterVarsity Press. In December Campbell interviewed me for his Disarming Leviathan podcast on the subject of "The Political Visions & Illusions of Christian Nationalism." A few weeks ago he posted the interview in two parts. Part 1 can be found here. Listen to part 2 here. I suspect we will be talking again later this year.

Earlier this month I was interviewed by Joseph Shehan for The Christian Underground Podcast. Shehan had tweeted about my book before, so his name was already familiar before he contacted me. Here is Shehan in his introduction to the interview: "Reading his book dramatically changed the way I looked at politics . . . . This book radically shook my world." I am gratified that he has found it so helpful. We will continue our conversation together in May. As usual, I will provide a link once the second interview is posted.

Here are some future events worth noting. First I will be teaching an online course on contemporary ideologies for the Faculdade Internacional Cidade Viva in João Pessoa, Brazil. This will consist of five recorded lectures to be part of a postgraduate course in Political Science and Public Performance. Cidade Viva will be responsible for the Portuguese subtitles.

In April I will be travelling to Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, to attend the annual Kuyper Conference and the Henry Institute Symposium. At the latter event I will be presenting a paper adapted from one of the chapters in my forthcoming book. I will also be part of a panel discussion on Kevin Vallier's All the Kingdoms of the World: On Radical Religious Alternatives to Liberalism (Oxford, 2023), which I am currently reading.

Later that month I will be heading to Grove City College, Pennsylvania, where I will deliver a lecture based on my forthcoming book, along with guest lecturing in political science classes. A close friend and former colleague now teaches there, and I look forward to seeing him and his family again.

Then I have received an invitation to return to Brazil in November. I have few details at present, but I expect to hear more shortly.

My interest in metrical psalmody prompted me to explore Archbishop Matthew Parker's Psalter, which is largely forgotten today, although three of its tunes, by composer Thomas Tallis, have found their way into our psalters and hymnals.

Thank you once again for your support for my work. Please consider a regular monthly contribution, as it makes it easier for Global Scholars to set an annual budget, including the modest salary I receive from the organization. GSC's page for giving can be found here. Once you are in the page, scroll down to the heading marked DONATION DETAILS, and then choose one of the options under FUND. Americans may donate through our sister organization in the US.

Canadian donors can donate publicly traded securities (shares or mutual funds) directly to charities without having to pay the capital gains tax. This is a cost-effective way to make a donation that comes with a substantial tax incentive. By donating securities, donors pay no tax on capital gains, receive a tax receipt for the fair market value of the securities, as well as reduce their taxes. Watch this video for more information about this option: Link Charity Canada: Donation of Securities. If interested, please visit the Link Charity Canada Inc. website, and call for details at 1-800-387-8146. Link Charity Canada is a partner organization of Global Scholars Canada, so Link Charity can easily direct funds for my work. Thank you!

Yours in God's service,

David Koyzis, Global Scholar
