During these summer months in the northern hemisphere, many of our activities slow down a bit, as people take their holidays and otherwise break with their regular routines. It's a good time also to renew relationships with friends and family, thanking God for the various communities of which we are part.
My work also has slowed to some extent, but there are a few items worth highlighting from the past month. I published two short articles in Christian Courier. The first is titled, Scandal revisited, comparing the Watergate scandal of half a century ago with recent developments in the country of my birth. The second is The good of marriage, prompted by two weddings and an anniversary.
Last year I was interviewed by Peter Bell on The Idolatry of Politics, which was finally posted in March of this year. Some weeks later he interviewed me again on the subject of my second book, We Answer to Another: Authority, Office, and the Image of God, which aired recently as part of his Sons of Patriarchy series. The video can be viewed here: America and Power. Topics covered include Catholic and Reformed Christian social teachings, Christian nationalism, and the perennial temptation to use unjust means for desired ends.
Finally, one more review of my recent book, Citizenship Without Illusions, appeared a few months ago. The author is one Daniel Zekveld, a policy analyst for ARPA Canada, the Association for Reformed Political Action. I have spoken remotely to the organization's staff on at least two past occasions.I have several ongoing projects on which I am working at the moment, and I will report on these once they have come to fruition. I will leave you with an item from my unrelated long term project dedicated to the 16th-century Genevan Psalter: The Lukan canticles and the Synod of Dort.
Thanks so much for your ongoing support for my work. If you have
contributed financially on a one-time basis in the past, please consider
a regular monthly
contribution, as it makes it easier for Global Scholars to set an annual
budget, including the modest salary I
receive from the organization. GSC's page for giving can be found here. Once you are in the page, scroll down to the heading marked DONATION
DETAILS, and then choose one of the options under FUND. Americans may donate through our sister organization in the US.
Or, if you prefer, Canadian donors can donate publicly traded securities (shares or mutual funds) directly to charities without having to pay the capital gains tax. This is a cost-effective and painless way to make a donation that comes with a substantial tax incentive. By donating securities, donors pay no tax on capital gains, receive a tax receipt for the fair market value of the securities, as well as reduce their taxes. Watch this video for more information about this option: Link Charity Canada: Donation of Securities. If interested, please visit the Link Charity Canada Inc. website, and call for details at 1-800-387-8146. Link Charity Canada is a partner organization of Global Scholars Canada, so Link Charity can easily direct funds for my work. Thank you!
Yours in God's service,
David Koyzis, Global Scholar
