We were back down to McMaster University Medical Centre yesterday, where my wife submitted to long-awaited elective surgery, which had been delayed due to the SARS outbreak. Precautions are still in place, and all persons entering the hospital are being routed through a single entrance once again. Visitors are prohibited, except for those immediately responsible for a patient.

As we sat in the various waiting rooms, we peppered our conversations with nervous humour, something that often occurs when people are trying to ward off an apprehensive mood. I observed that she was about to have her sinuses "deconstructed," and we wondered aloud what a post-modern, Derridean approach to the surgical art would look like. We speculated on this for a few minutes, and then quickly decided we would rather not find out.

Surgery was successful. Please pray for a speedy recovery. Thanks.
